Since 2005, I have been building spaces out of simple colored shapes. My process is choreographic and sometimes rough. At the end I want the pictures to snap to attention, become animate, and light up the room. There are loose references to architecture, landscape, and textiles but the goal is to make a free space for the viewer's imagination.

I set out to build simple spaces by placing one color shape next to and sometimes over another, while carving negative shapes in the white ground. The simultaneity or reversals of shape and emptiness seemed liberating and dynamic. I wanted a metaphorically porous space, open to the poetics of visual imaginings.
